Reuters said today that it received a takeover approach from an unidentified bidder. Sources close to the deal say the suitor is Canadian publisher Thomson. Analysts say that acquiring Reuters will give Thomson a clear market lead in the financial information market.
EMI said today that it has received a number of takeover approaches after a report that private equity firm One Equity Partners had joined the list of bidders. The record company declined to say how many approaches it had received or who they were from. EMI recently rejected a $4.2 billion bid from Warner Music.
Clear Channel, the largest U.S. radio broadcaster, rejected a new $19.4 billion bid from Bain Capital Partners and Thomas H. Lee Partners, saying it wasn't enough to win over shareholders. Investors who oppose the offer have enough votes to block the deal. Analysts expect that Clear Channel will soon receive a higher bid.
