Blues Strike Oilers In OT

Pierre Turgeon's second goal of the game, 35 seconds into overtime, gave the St. Louis Blues a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night.

Turgeon was left alone in front of goalie Mikhail Shtalenkov for the winner, spoiling the Oilers' third-period comeback from a 3-0 deficit.

Michal Handzus and Scott Young also scored for the Blues. Todd Reirden, Janne Niinimaa and Ryan Smyth scored for Edmonton.

Turgeon and Handzus scored 36 seconds apart in the first period.

Turegon completed a give-and-go with Pavol Demitra on a power play at 14:18, beating Shtalenkov high to the stick side. It was Turgeon's 14th goal of the season.

Handzus made it 2-0 at 14:54 when his shot from a bad angle along the right boards snuck past Shtalenkov on the short side. It was his third.

Young gave Dallas a three-goal lead with his 11th at 14:23 of the second when he deflected in a shot by Al MacInnis from the point on a power play.

Reirden and Niinimaa scored in a 75-second span of the third to spark Edmonton's rally.

Reirden's point shot deflected in off a St. Louis defender at 7:54 and Niinimaa extended his goal-scoring streak to three games at 9:09 after being held without a goal for the first 43 games. His long slap shot beat rookie Rich Parent high on the stick side.

Smyth tied the game with 83 seconds left in regulation when he was left with a wide-open net following a pass across the crease, with Parent caught out of position.

Parent had 27 saves for his third win in four starts.
