Blues And Kings Tie

Luc Robitaille made his 1,000th career game a truly special occasion.

Robitaille scored his team-leading 16th goal and tied Frank Mahovlich for 20th place on the career goal list as the Los Angeles Kings tied the St. Louis Blues 2-2 Tuesday night.

"It's a milestone for sure, and I didn't know if I'd get to the league," said Robitaille, a ninth-round pick in the 1984 Entry Draft by the Kings. "It's a pretty big thing, but I've got to keep going."

His teammates weren't aware of the occasion until they read the game notes.

"In this game, you get what you deserve, and tonight he deserved the goal," coach Andy Murray said. "I wish he could have gotten another one."

  • The Kings ended the 15-game scoring streak of Pierre Turgeon, whose run is tied for the longest of the season with Pittsburgh's Jaromir Jagr. Turgeon had seven goals and 17 assists during the stretch.

"Always, you're a little bit disappointed," Turgeon said. "When it goes on, you just ride it as long as you can and there it is."

Mike Eastwood forced overtime with his 13th goal, and first since his first career hat trick Dec. 21. Eastwood converted a setup from behind the net by defenseman Jeff Finley, who was pressing the attack with 4:54 to go.

"He looked like Wayne Gretzky out there," Eastwood's linemate Tyson Nash said of Finley, who has one goal and six points. "He was in his office."

The Blues remained unbeaten in overtime at 4-0-6, but were outshot 2-in the extra period. The Kings are 0-2-7 in overtime.

Robitaille's 533rd career goal gave the Kings a 2-1 lead at 51 seconds of the third. His setup for Glen Murray on a 2-on-1 break deflected off the skate of Finley and back to Robitaille, who then beat Jamie McLennan.

Scott Pellerin also scored for St. Louis, while newly-acquired Bob Corkum scored in his second game with the Kings.

Both teams were playing for the second straight night. The Kings rebounded from a 4-1 loss at Dallas, becoming only the fourth team to outshoot the Blues all season. The Blues beat the Rangers 5-1 at New York on Monday.

The Blues played the last two periods without defenseman Chris Pronger, who sustained a bruised right foot when struck by a Rob Blake slap shot. Pronger headed straight for the locker room after being injured in the final minute, but X-rays showed no break.

Pronger, the Blues' captain, didn't think he'd miss any action.

"I doubt it," Pronger said. "We'll see how it feels tomorrow."

The Kings lost one of their stars before the game began when Ziggy Palffy was scratched due to back spasms.

McLennan made 25 saves in his first start since Dec. 5. Roman Turek made 12 starts in a row, although McLennan relieved him in a 5-1 loss at Colorado Dec. 27.

Pellerin gave the Blues the lead with his first goal since Oct. 16, beating Stephane Fiset on a rebound at 4:13 of the first period.

Corkum, who signed a free-agent deal Dec. 28, tied it when he slid in a shot from the slot at 5:05 of the second. McLennan was screened by the Kings' Dan Bylsma, who was in the crease after being checked.

"Disco Dan went to the goal and pretty much wiped out the goalie," Corkum said. "It was not a hard shot, but it got through."
