Black And Cera: A Pre-historic "Bromance"

Comedic stars Jack Black and Michael Cera have joined forces to star in perhaps the world's first "bromance."

In "Year One" out this Friday, Black and Cera star as pre-historic hunter/gatherers banished from their village.

Early Show co-anchors Julie Chen and Harry Smith shared some laughs with the funny men.

With the help of a lot of furs and wigs, Black and Cera were able to prepare for the role of a hunter/gatherer.

"That took care of the preparation for me," Cera said.

"I prepared -- the hunting was different back then though. You just had to live by the law of the land. Chasing beasts," Black joked. "It was all about brute force. I just looked at the script and got into it that way. I didn't do any real like method preparation."

Although the two admitted that they didn't spend any extra time in the Museum of Natural History, Black said "I did read up on the old testament - refresher course."

In the film, Black says of their characters, "we're not cave men, but pre-historic dudes. We are sort of wandering through biblical times. Like one of the 'Monty Python' biblical comedies."

A huge fan of director Harold Ramis, Cera admits that when he was sick with the chickenpox as a child, he watched "Ghostbusters" a thousand times and that's why he decided to be an actor.

"When I found out I was going to get to work with Harold, I couldn't believe it," said Cera, who he had never met him before he was cast.

Cera even told Ramis the chickenpox story.

"I think he knows how much 'Ghostbusters' meant to me. Just even having a voicemail from him on my phone before we were going to do the read-through is one of the most significant things that ever happened to me," Cera said.

Black also has a parculiar talent - imitating animal noises. He showed off his skills by imitating a wolf and a tiger, but admitted he wasn't really on his game due to a cold.

Smith pointed out that "Year One" is being billed as a "buddy comedy" or a "bromance."

"I don't consider it a bromance," Black said. "To me, 'bromance' is about a genre where all the focus is on male on male sensitivity. This one is more about two dudes on a journey that are good friends."

"Paul Newman and Robert Redford," Smith added. "Who's who?"

"I think I would be 'Sun Dance Kid,'" Cera said.

"I'm going to go Paul Newman. Whichever he was," Black said.

Both musicians, Black and Cera bonded over several jams sessions together as well.

"Turns out Michael is a tremendous guitar player. If we had a band, he would be on lead guitar. I would be on the flute whistle," Black joked.

"You've got an unbelievably unique guitar style where you push your fingers into the strings," Cera said.

"I make up for lack of skill with power," Black said.
