Biden tweets support for "Veep" star battling cancer
Former Vice President Joe Biden tweeted out his support for Julia Louis-Dreyfus Thursday night, after the HBO "Veep" star announced she is fighting breast cancer.
"We Veeps stick together. Jill and I, and all of the Bidens, are with you, Julia," the former vice president posted, along with a picture of him and Louis-Dreyfus, sporting sunglasses and strolling down a hall side-by-side.
Earlier this year, the Bidens launched the Biden Cancer Initiative, which is focused on continuing "the fight to make progress in cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and care." Biden's son, Beau, died of brain cancer in 2015.
The former "Seinfeld" actress quickly responded to Biden's post.
Louis-Dreyfus took to Twitter earlier in the day to announce her diagnosis.
"One in eight women get breast cancer," the Emmy-winning actress tweeted. "Today, I'm the one."
In "Veep," Louis-Dreyfus plays the often-overlooked Vice President (and short-lived president) Selina Meyer, who longs for a better position in the Washington spotlight. She and Biden did a spoof of the show for the White House Correspondents Association Dinner together in 2014, and in 2013, before the show's second season, she had lunch with Biden at the White House.
