Bernie Sanders busts a move with Ellen DeGeneres

Before Bernie Sanders stepped on to the set of The Ellen DeGeneres Show for a taped interview on Wednesday, he warmed up for his entrance with a few moves backstage.

But the lively arrival on stage -- set to the famous "Burn, baby, burn" lyrics of The Trammp's "Disco Inferno" -- was just the beginning of a segment, airing Thursday, where the Democratic presidential candidate discussed a wide array of issues.

The show released a few clips online, including a lively portion of the interview where Degeneres' studio audience finds out if the White House hopeful has ever been handcuffed.

"Have you ever been in handcuffs?" the talk show host asked Sanders.

He responded with a swift: "Yes." Then slowly backtracked: "Now I don't know exactly what you mean by that, but--"

"That's all right, that's all right," DeGeneres assured him. "Leave it."

"I take it to mean: was I ever arrested by the police?" Sanders continued.

But DeGeneres clarified, "Well, no, not necessarily."

"When I was young, yes," the Vermont senator explained, laughing. "I was involved in a civil rights demonstration, and I was arrested."

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, DeGeneres said that she would donate $1000 to breast cancer research for every personal question Sanders answered in the "Hot Seat." In total, the senator raised $10,000.

Some other highlights of the interview:

If he were a Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor, Sanders would be "Bern, Bernie Bern."

"So it would be hot and spicy ice cream?" DeGeneres questioned.

The presidential contender affirmed, yes, "that's right."

If Sanders were stuck on a deserted island with only one Republican rival for the White House, he would choose Marco Rubio.

Because the Florida senator is "used to the sun."

On who has better hair, Sanders or Donald Trump:

"That goes without saying," Sanders said, pointing at his own disheveled coif.

And his favorite member of teen boy band sensation One Direction?

With a little help from an audience member's prompting, the Democratic candidate picked Harry Styles.
