Beer-stealing thief in Ky. leaves apology note, money for stolen alcohol

Apology note from an alleged chronic beer thief was found at the back door of Dee Samad's home in Villa Hills, Ky. WKRC

(CBS) VILLA HILLS, Ky. - A Kentucky woman told CBS affiliate WKRC that a chronic petty thief, who reportedly stole beer from her backyard refrigerator for years, left an apology note and money after a having a religious revelation.

Dee Samad and her husband, Lee, have a backyard fridge full of beer that's always been subject to the honor system, WKRC reports. But as it's said, there's no honor among thieves.

"...For a while, my husband kept saying, 'I know I put a case of beer in there and there's only 5 or 6 cans left," Dee recounted to the station.

Dee said they eventually decided to put a lock on the fridge, but the lock got to be a hassle and was later removed.

According to the station, the couple figured it was their friends or kids taking the beer and were not too concerned. But Dee knew something was amiss last Monday when she got home and realized her back gate was open.

Upon making her way though her house and to the back door, she realized a note had been placed on the ground outside the house.

"So I came back and picked it up and it was thick. So I unfolded it and seven $20 bills dropped out," Dee told the station.

The note reportedly read, "Dear homeowner, Enclosed is a sum of cash that my friends and I owe you and your family to repay you for all of the times we have stolen from your poolside fridge/bar over the past few years."

The note went on to explain that the individual had a religious conversion and wanted to apologize and pray to God that He would bless Dee and her family. He also reportedly promised he would never come back.

The note was signed, "Sincerely, Villa Hills resident."

"That's the most unbelievable thing I've ever had happen to me," Dee told the station.

Although she says she has an idea of who it may be, she said she isn't sure and she hopes the ex-thief will reconsider never coming back.

"I hope that he sees this on TV and knocks on our door and he would be welcome in our home," Dee told WKRC.

...But it's BYOB.
