"Battle: LA" star talks tough girls in Hollywood

Call her Hollywood's "Tough Girl." From "The Fast and The Furious" to "Avatar," Michelle Rodriguez is known for her aggressive on-screen presence. Her latest project, "Battle: Los Angeles" (currently topping the box office) is no exception.

In an interview for CBSNews.com, Rodriguez suggested that the blame lies in the writing, "In the action-film realm, the grand majority of the time, the screenplay writers are boys," the actress explained, "When they think of a female who's strong, I guess immediately they lean more towards these tomboy characters. It's not really my fault that there's a lack of dimension there."

But Rodriguez expects that mold to soon change, "Eventually, we'll start learning that females have a different type of power, or energy, to bring to the table. Then maybe we'll find a little more dimension to these action film roles."

The question begged to be asked if the actress was anything like her tough-edged on-screen characters. "It's just an aspect in films that's exaggerated of me," Rodriguez told us, "It's in me, but you'd probably have to mess with my family to get that kind of intensity out of me. You know what I mean? I'm a teddy bear."

The 32-year-old, who has also scored success on Television with ABC's "Lost," has now turned her attention to screenwriting, focusing on the wild night life of New York City. And don't expect to see her again in combat-mode any time soon.

"It's been ten years, and I've been doing the same thing," Rodriguez noted, "I think I've made my point already, it's time to move on."

And what would she say to her fans, who are going to or have already seen "Battle: Los Angeles" because she's in it? "I send you lots of love," and added, "I think that you won't be let down. Cause it's a real ride."

A "real ride" indeed, which is about to take a whole new turn for this actress.
