Basic Tech Tips that Everyone Should Know (But Doesn't)
Over at the New York Times, tech columnist David Pogue has made a name for himself by distilling complex topics into language that everyone can understand. In a recent blog post, Pogue decided to list some basic tips that most people know most of but almost no one knows all of. Or as he puts it, "what's common knowledge isn't the same as universal knowledge."
It's certainly not. While I knew most of the tips that Pogue laid down (like not sending most of my money to various relatives of African royalty and tabbing my way through boxes on web forms), the real gold was in the hundreds of tips that readers threw in the comments, like--
Pressing the space bar twice on my Blackberry (or iPhone) gets me a period, a space, and then a capital letter.
Pressing the "/" key in Firefox brings up a quick search to locate terms in any webpage.
Pressing "ctrl" "enter" in IE or Firefox adds a "www." prefix and a ".com" suffix to any address you type in.
Check them out, and then add your own favorites.
