(CBS) Speculation continues to grow about who will fill the empty "X-Factor" judges' seats.

The latest report suggests that Avril Lavigne is in talks to move into one of the open slots, according to TMZ.

Insiders said Lavinge's rep contacted "X-Factor" producers about the gig and now both sides are mulling it over, according to the website.

The Canadian pop star joins a growing list of reported potential judges, including Britney Spears, Fergie and Janet Jackson. But nothing has been confirmed.

They would fill the spots abandoned by Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, who parted ways from the show earlier this year.

Boss Simon Cowell has said he wants two women to join judge L.A. Reid, but hasn't provided any more clues.

"There's been a load of speculation, some true, some not true," Cowell said recently, according to the Associated Press.
