Auburn Suspends Two Players

Auburn kicker Rob Bironas and linebacker Shawn Shaw were suspended for the rest of the season Tuesday for violating team rules.

"We have rules that our team must abide by and when they don't, we must take disciplinary action," Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville said.

Bironas and Shaw will miss Auburn's (3-4, 1-4 Southeastern Conference) final four games.

This isn't Bironas' first run-in with Tuberville. A preseason All-SEC selection, Bironas was criticized by Tuberville for most of August for what the coach called "atrocious kicking."

The junior was 1-for-4 on field-goal attempts this season before he lost his starting job to Damon Duval. Against Mississippi State, Duval was not supposed to play because of disciplinary action against him, but had to when Tuberville suspended Bironas.

Bironas was reinstated, but Tuberville again suspended him before last week's game against Florida.

Like the rest of Auburn's kickers, snappers and holders, Bironas had his hair dyed platinum blonde. Tuberville reportedly told him to change it and Bironas showed up the next day with it dyed bright orange.

Shaw, a sophomore inside linebacker, had 19 tackles in six games.
