Attorney General wants another season of "The Wire"

(CBS) HBO's "The Wire" ended after five seasons in 2008, but many fans still miss the critically-acclaimed drama - and they'll probably be happy to hear that Attorney General Eric Holder has ordered its writers to come up with more episodes.

Holder made the comments at a press conference announcing the launch of the "Drug Endangered Children Public Awareness Campaign," where he was joined by series stars Wendell Pierce (Bunk), Sonja Sohn (Kima) and Jim True-Frost (Prez) on Tuesday.

The attorney general addressed his plea directly to writers David Simon and Ed Burns.

"I want to speak directly to Mr. Burns and Mr. Simon: Do another season of 'The Wire'," Holder said, according to Reuters. "That's actually at a minimum. ... If you don't do a season, do a movie. We've done HBO movies, this is a series that deserves a movie. I want another season or I want a movie. I have a lot of power, Mr. Burns and Mr. Simon."

Holder's demand drew laugher and applause from the audience, according to the report, while Pierce (who now stars on HBO's "Treme") chimed in with a "hear, hear."

The gritty, Baltimore-set series focused on a different aspect of the city each season, starting with the illegal drug trade and moving onto the docks, government, schools and the media.
