Ariz. Escapee Tracy Province Pleads Not Guilty to Murder Charges

(CBS/AP) Arizona inmate Tracy Province pleaded not guilty to capital murder and other charges in a New Mexico courtroom for the shooting deaths of an Oklahoma couple who were found after he and two others escaped from a prison near Kingman, Ariz. last July.

Province, 42, is accused of killing Gary and Linda Haas of Tecumseh, Okla., and burning their bodies inside a camping trailer. The victims' bodies were found in eastern New Mexico a few days after Province escaped from a minimum security prison with inmates John McCluskey, 45, and 36-year-old Daniel Renwick on July 30.

A shackled Province responded to questions from Chief U.S. Magistrate Richard Puglisi and waived a reading of the indictment before U.S. marshals escorted him from a federal courtroom Wednesday.

Gary Haas' 80-year-old mother, Vivian Haas, and his younger sister, Linda Rock, had no comment for reporters.

Province was brought to New Mexico last week after pleading guilty to other charges stemming from crimes in Arizona after his escape. He was sentenced to more than 38 years in prison.
