New iPad hits whopping 116 degrees, report says

"The high-resolution screen of the new iPad establishes a new benchmark in excellence, providing the best rendering of detail and color accuracy we've ever seen on a tablet display. As a result, the iPad tops our new tablet Ratings," Consumer Reports stated Monday.

The new iPad's 2,048-by-1,536-pixel display is so impressive that Consumer Reports says they have "recalibrated [their] standard of excellence for tablet screens." The organization gave the tablet the highest score yet for color accuracy.

Consumer Reports also cited the 5-megapixel camera, dependable 4G connectivity and longer battery life as features that contributed to the excellence of the tablet.

There was much speculation that Consumer Reports would not recommend Apple's new iPad when the organization posted results of a heat test that had the tablet heating up to 116 degrees. Many coined the report as "heatgate," a nod to the iPhone 4's "antennagate" - the controversy over the iPhone 4's antenna causing dropped calls.

Other tablets that got a recommendation from Consumer Reports includes, the Toshiba Excite 10LE, Pantech's new 8-inch Element, Sony Tablet P and Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.
