(CBS) - Apple announced the release of music creation app GarageBand for the iPhone and iPod touch today.
GarageBand is already available for Macs and iPads and is on sale at the App Store for $4.99.
"GarageBand on iPad has been a big hit and we think customers will love using it on their iPhone or iPod touch," Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing Philip Schiller said in a statement released today. "The innovative Multi-Touch interface combined with Smart Instruments makes it easy to create great sounding music, even if you've never studied music or played an instrument before."
The iPhone and iPod touch's interface creates an opportunity for Apple to include touch instruments, like keyboards, guitars and drums.
GarageBand is an application originally developed for the Macintosh. Its initial release was announced at the Macworld Conference and Expo in Jan. 2004.
