Apple invites press to Oct. 22 iPad event

Apple has sent invitations to the press for an Oct. 22 event. According to CNET, the tech giant is widely expected to unveil new iPads and Macs.

A colorful invitation depicting Apple's logo and multi-colored leaves falling features a tagline that says: "We still have a lot to cover."

Based on the company's history, Apple will likely show off its fifth-generation iPad and second-generation iPad mini. Last year, Apple introduced the iPad mini and announced an update of its iPad at an Oct. 23 event.

Few details are known about the new devices, but the tech blog AllThingsD says both new iPads will likely have Apple's new 64-bit A7 chip. It's been rumored that the iPad mini will come with a Retina display, however reports suggest that production of the screens has been delayed.

Apple is also expected to update its line of Macs and MacBook Pros. Reports also suggest that new details on OS X Mavericks -- including price and release dates -- will also be announced.

Apple's press event will take place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco at 10 a.m. PT.
