Anonymous tipper leaving thousands in the name of "Tips for Jesus"

CHICAGO – It’s a mystery that’s creating intrigue from coast to coast. Someone is visiting restaurants and leaving astronomical tips up to $10,000 for the wait staff.

The only clue? The words Tips for Jesus on each receipt, reports Brad Edwards for CBS Chicago.

At Chicago's The Boundary in Wicker Park, one server got a tip for $3,000.

The restaurant community is abuzz.

At the swanky Tortoise Club on Chicago's State Street, Karen Baker has mixed, served and stirred for 10 years.

"I think it’s amazing and I hope to be one of them," Baker said.

One of the few clues is the name on an Instagram account, @tipsforjesus. The account was created three months ago.Its tagline is "Doing the Lord's work, one tip at a time."

The tips have ranged from $500 to $10,000 tips.

"People don’t tip well all the time and they don’t understand that we work solely for tips," Baker said.

Tips for Jesus: a reminder to all, from Chicago to Hollywood.
