Angels' Pep Out For Season


Anaheim Angels reliever Pep Harris will miss the entire 1999 season while recuperating from reconstructive elbow surgery.

The 26-year-old right-hander had injured the right medial collateral ligament of his pitching elbow. He was operated on Monday at Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood, Calif., and will be sidelined a year to 18 months.

Harris was 3-1 with a 4.35 ERA in 49 games for the Angels last season. He has an overall big-league record of 10-5 with a 3.70 ERA in 121 games, three of them starts.

Harris was injured Oct. 24 while pitching in the Venezuelan Winter League.

The Angels acquired Harris on Feb. 15, 1996, along with right-hander Jason Grimsley for left-hander Brian Anderson, currently with Arizona.
