Angels Add Salmon To DL

Right fielder Tim Salmon, the latest member of the Anaheim Angels' walking wounded, was placed on the 15-day disabled list by the team Tuesday, retroactive to May 4.

Salmon, who is batting .347 with a team-leading seven homers and 25 RBI, suffered a sprained left wrist diving for a fly ball in a May 3 game against the Chicago White Sox.

He is the ninth Anaheim player currently on the DL.

Shortstop Gary DiSarcina, center fielder Jim Edmonds, outfielder Reggie Williams and pitchers Jason Dickson, Pep Harris and Jack McDowell are on the 15-day DL. Second baseman Justin Baughman and pitcher Mike James are on the 60-day DL, while second baseman Randy Velarde is listed as day-to-day with a lower back injury.

In addition, star first baseman Mo Vaughn spent time on the DL earlier this year with an ankle injury.

The rash of injuries has taken its toll on Anaheim (13-19), which has dropped four straight and six of its last seven games to fall into last place in the American League West.

While the Angels begin a three-game stand in New York against the Yankees Tuesday night, Salmon is scheduled to return to Los Angeles Wednesday for further evaluation by Anaheim's medical director.
