Andrea Sanderlin, N.Y. mom, accused of running massive marijuana growing operation out of city warehouse
(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - A woman from a wealthy New York suburb is accused of growing and attempting to sell $3 million worth of marijuana from a city warehouse.
A federal complaint says Andrea Sanderlin, from Scarsdale, N.Y., operated a warehouse in Queens that contained a "sophisticated operation to grow and process marijuana."
The complaint was filed May 20 by Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent David Lee. It was first reported Tuesday by The Smoking Gun website.
Lee says law enforcement agents entered the warehouse using a search warrant to find two rooms designed to grow marijuana. He says each room had state of the art lighting, irrigation and ventilation systems
According to CBS New York, the 45-year-old woman operated the business under the name "Fanstastic Enterprises." Authorities were reportedly tipped off by the unusually high electric bill. Agents seized nearly 3,000 marijuana plants from the warehouse, worth approximately $3 million.
Neighbors in Sanderlin's Scarsdale neighborhood said police also raided Sanderlin's residence. She lived with her two daughters, ages 13 and 3, in a lavish Westchester home.
Sanderlin's attorney, Joel Winograd, did not return a message or email seeking comment Tuesday night.
