Anaheim Signs Tim Belcher
Free-agent pitcher Tim Belcher, who led Kansas City in victories for the third consecutive season, agreed Friday to a $10.2 million, two-year contract with the Anaheim Angels.
The 37-year-old right-hander was 14-14 with two complete games and a 4.27 ERA in 34 starts for the Royals last season. He tied for second among AL pitchers in starts and was fifth in innings pitched with 226.

"His workhorse approach will bring needed depth to our starting rotation and his leadership ability will be an asset to our clubhouse," Angels general manager Bill Bavasi said.
Belcher will earn $4.6 million in 1999 and 2000, with a club option for 2001 at $5.1 million and a $1 million buyout. His contract includes performance bonuses totaling $350,000 a year, which he would receive if he pitches 220 innings or more.
Belcher has reached double digits in wins eight times, including his last four seasons. He has averaged more than 12 wins and 200 innings pitched during his 11 seasons in the majors.
He won a World Series ring in 1988 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, his team from 1987-91.
