(CBS) LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas - Liberty County authorities say a 27-year-old woman faces charges after her 2-year-old twin nieces were found locked in a room naked and without food Saturday morning, according to CBS affiliate KHOU.

Amy Castillo has reportedly been charged with abandonment and endangerment of a child, while charges against her sister, 30-year-old Brandy Dominguez, are pending.

Investigators said a probation officer showed up to Dominguez's trailer home to check on her since she is on pre-trial release on a human trafficking charge. Officers didn't find the mother but found Castillo instead, who let the officers into the home and that's when they heard scratching coming from another room, reports the station.

Officers allegedly opened the double-locked room, with Castillo's permission, and found the twin girls naked on the floor without food or toys. Officers reportedly said the room had a strong smell of urine.

The station reports Child Protective Services took the children away.

Dominguez told KHOU that she was gone for about 30 minutes and left her children in the care of her sister. She denied that there was a double lock on the door and said the girls were in diapers, not naked.

Dominguez also said the girls were on the floor because their beds were broken and she is in the process of fixing them. The mother calls the twins "miracle babies" because she had cancer and couldn't get pregnant. She said she wants her children back.

The sheriff's office is reportedly looking to forward the case to the District Attorney's office for possible charges against Dominguez.
