Americans United On Air Supporting Four Targeted Ds

Americans United for Change will be up on the air next week applauding four targeted Democrats for supporting modest tax rebates Congress approved earlier this year to boost the flagging economy.

The low six-figure ad buy will start running next Monday on a mix of cable and broadcast television in upstate New York for Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand, New Hampshire for Rep. Carol Shea-Porter and Texas for Reps. Nick Lampson and Ciro Rodriguez.

In the ad, Americans United, which has spent millions targeting potentially vulnerable Republicans, criticizes the Bush administration and the GOP on Capitol Hill for passing legislation that "gave tax breaks to millionaires and oil companies." The ad commends these four lawmakers for approving the rebate checks that started going out to taxpayers earlier this year - as part of legislation the administration and those same Republicans also supported.

"Tax rebate checks are here because Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter knows that in times like these a little help can make a big difference for folks in New Hampshire," the announcer says in one version. "And that's the change we need."

Again, it's change, change, change this election season. Even for incumbents.
