American, US Airways to cross-sell flights

FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines (AAL) and US Airways next week will begin selling tickets on each other's flights in a move toward combining fleets after their 2013 merger.

It's a step toward eliminating the US Airways name in about two years and operating flights under the Fort Worth-based American banner.

The airlines Monday announced a so-called code-sharing agreement to initially cover most flights between American hubs such as Dallas-Fort Worth and Miami and US Airways hubs including Charlotte, N.C., and Philadelphia; the US Airways shuttle on the East Coast, and some other U.S. and international routes.

Code-sharing starts Jan. 23 and will expand in coming weeks. Customers will be able to book a ticket on either website that includes flights on each carrier.
