"American Horror Story: Asylum" premiere tops first season in ratings

TV watchers were happy to check in for "American Horror Story: Asylum."

The premiere of the FX series' second installment drew 3.9 million viewers on Wednesday night, according to Deadline.

The opener outpaced any single telecast from the inaugural "American Horror Story" season, and was up 21 percent in total viewers from last fall's premiere.

This season of the "American Horror Story" anthology centers around Briarcliff Manor, an asylum for the criminally insane.

Returning actors from the first season (though all playing different characters) include Jessica Lange, Lily Rabe, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy and Zachary Quinto.

On Wednesday, "AHS" co-creator Ryan Murphy tweeted that Dylan McDermott will also be making an appearance at the "Asylum" this season.
