Amber Alert issued for 12-year-old NC girl who may be traveling with sex offender

(AP) RALEIGH, N.C.- Authorities say that Abigale Faith Lefevers, a 12-year-old North Carolina girl who is the subject of an Amber Alert, may be traveling with registered sex offender, 38-year-old Timothy Howard Newman, along the coast of South Carolina.

Investigators report that she had been communicating with Newman in recent weeks. Newman is familiar with the Atlantic coast because his father was a boat captain, authorities say. 

Authorities think he might be near Myrtle Beach or elsewhere along the South Carolina coast. Newman also was a truck driver and may be using back roads to avoid police.

Newman may be driving a red 1998 Chrysler Sebring with a North Carolina license tag AKT6534. Lefevers has been missing since Monday morning.
