Amazon EC2 outage downs major social networks

gearlive.com

(CBS News/ What's Trending) A number of popular social networking sites are experiencing outages this morning due to Amazon's massive cloud storage service EC2 going down.

With Reddit, Hootsuite, and Four Square topping a long list of sites waiting for Amazon to solve their technical woes, users have gone elsewhere online to express their outrage.

It's a bad day for the cloud - Amazon EC2 outage still isn't resolved.

Can't get my EC2 instance up !! I'm so smearing Amazon if they force me to do my demo with nothing but powerpoint later."

Ironically, Amazon's computer outage coincides with the day short-lived television series "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" predicated that machines would gain awareness and attack the human race. So, you see, it could be worse.

Spruijt Today is Terminator's Judgment Day (4/21/2011). Skynet supposed to kill us all. Fortunately for us Skynet runs on Amazon EC2

The cloud has been experiencing difficulties since early this morning and continues to falter with little feedback from Amazon: "A number of people have asked us for an ETA on when we'll be fully recovered. We deeply understand why this is important and promise to share this information as soon as we have an estimate that we believe is close to accurate."

The current outage is not the first hiccup in Amazon's cloud service. Multiple outages have been reported since its inception in 2006.
