Amanda Holden Takes NYC By Storm
Amanda Holden, a judge on the show "Britain's Got Talent" has had her share of surprises on television, but she had a few new ones exploring New York City this week.
Holden, who appeared on The Early Show as a guest anchor came back on Thursday to talk about her days discovering the Big Apple.
"I've had the best week," Holden told Early Show co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez.
Holden started her travels in New York with a day on the town. Her intentions: shopping, eating and doing "touristy things." And -- "fingers crossed" -- actually have breakfast at Tiffany's.
Holden started her day with The Early Show by eating a trademark New York bagel from a cart. Her verdict: "really good." But Holden later told Rodriguez she preferred the traditional British scone.
But Holden's adventures were was almost thwarted by her choice of attire. Holden stopped short before a New York street grate: her sky-high gladiator heels weren't made for walking the streets.
"This is where I'm a stupid English person," she said.
After a cab excursion to the Magnolia bakery, known for "Sex and the City" fame, Holden deemed the pastries "to die for."
But what about that breakfast at Tiffany's?
Holden did get her wish. Orange juice and another pastry were waiting. And a small blue Tiffany's box, wrapped in a trademark white ribbon.
After breakfast, Holden took a trip down Fifth Avenue for shopping, and took a trip on the subway.
"Wish me luck," she said while waiting for the train, "because I have no idea where I'm going."
But Holden didn't stay underground for long; she hired a bike cab and went shopping for "I love New York" t-shirts.
After she had her fill of the souvenir shopping, she took trip to Central Park in one of the horse-drawn carriages, and visited the "Imagine" memorial to Beatles star John Lennon.
"I wonder if Yoko left one of those roses," she said, looking at the mosaic decked out with red flowers to honoring the British icon.
And after a bus ride from the park, Holden ended up in Times Square, searching for someone who could be the next Susan Boyle. After hearing a few passersby, she said, "I think New York's got talent."
Holden also took a city bus tour, and drank a pint of Guinness beer in one of the city's pubs.
"Cheers, New York," she said.
But what about the little Tiffany's box?
Holden revealed its contents of the box on The Early Show. She received a key necklace, which she called "a key to the city."
