Al Qaeda Resorts to Porn Sites to Recruit Young Operatives

Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) used to post its statements and audio messages on pornographic websites, according to a Moroccan convicted in the robbing and killing of four French tourists in December 2007.

The Algerian daily Echorouk reports that Maarouf Ould al Hiba revealed during his interrogation by the Mauritanian authorities that the leaders of AQIM concluded after lengthy deliberations with their media committee that the "optimum way to propagate the recruitment campaign was to post it in one of the porn websites on the Internet."

According to the interrogation script leaked by Mauritanian security sources Maarouf said the initiative had been approved despite the prohibition of such an act from an Islamic viewpoint. Maarouf said that the group's theorists think that the end justifies the means.
