Ga. delays Kelly Gissendaner's execution ahead of winter storm

ATLANTA - Georgia has delayed the execution of its only female death row inmate, ahead of a winter storm.

Kelly Renee Gissendaner's execution had been scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Department of Corrections says in a statement that the execution is now set for Monday.

The department didn't give a reason. A storm is forecast to hit parts of Georgia on Wednesday afternoon, closing schools and offices and prompting warnings about roads.

Gissendaner was convicted of murder in the 1997 slaying of her husband. Prosecutors said she plotted with her boyfriend.

A jury convicted Gissendaner and sentenced her to death in 1998.

The State Board of Pardons and Paroles on Wednesday denied Gissendaner's request for clemency.
