After clock controversy, Ahmed Mohamed to attend White House astronomy event
Just about a month after finding himself in handcuffs for tinkering with a clock, 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed will be a special guest at the White House.
Mohamed -- the Muslim teen from Irving, Texas who was arrested after bringing a homemade clock to class that was suspected of being a bomb -- is attending the White House's second annual Astronomy Night on Monday. The event, hosted by President Obama, brings together students, teachers, scientists, astronauts and others to spend an evening stargazing. It's aimed at promoting STEM education and inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers.
After Mohamed was arrested, a picture of the boy in handcuffs -- and a NASA t-shirt -- went viral. President Obama declared his support for Mohamed online, as did other politicians like Hillary Clinton and tech leaders like Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
On Tuesday, Mohamed will attend a news conference with Rep. Mike Honda, D-California, a congressman who sent a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch calling for a Justice Department investigation into Mohamed's detention and arrest.
