Afghan President Visits India To Discuss Security

NEW DELHI (AP) - Afghan President Hamid Karzai is visiting the Indian capital to discuss security in Afghanistan and to attend a conference on sustainable development.

The Ministry of External Affairs says Karzai will meet with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday about efforts to secure Afghanistan. Last month, India's external affairs minister visited Afghanistan and pledged India's help in reconstructing the country.

India and Afghanistan have enjoyed strong diplomatic and trade ties since the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan.

During his two-day visit, Karzai will also meet with Indian President Pratibha Patil and will join the leaders of the Dominican Republic and the Seychelles in giving speeches at New Delhi's first international Sustainable Development Summit.
