Advice to criminals: Hold the phone, or get arrested
(CBS/AP) BAY CITY, Mich. - Another lost cellphone has apparently tripped up yet another crook, this time in Bay City, Michigan.
While responding to a convenience store break-in last September in the town near Saginaw Bay, police found a cellphone on the ground. When it rang, they were happy to answer the call - literally.
The cellphone's caller ID read "Baby's momma." And the caller said the phone belonged to Kyle Schmiege.
Well, one thing led to another, and police followed the phone trail to link the 20-year-old Mr. Schmiege to a home burglary back in February 2011.
Then this past February, Schmiege pleaded guilty to second-degree home invasion in the case.
Now, he's got a problem with a different kind of cell.
According to MLive.com, Bay County Circuit Judge Harry Gill recently sentenced him to a wide-ranging prison term - between 23 months and 15 years.
