Adrian Navarro-Canales Update: Nev. teen accused in stabbing deaths of mother and brother arrested
(CBS) LAS VEGAS - Adrian Navarro-Canales, the Las Vegas-area teenager accused in the stabbing deaths of his mother and 9-year-old brother, was taken into custody Wednesday morning after a six-day manhunt, police say, according to CBS Las Vegas.
The teen was found sitting in an open-air food court on the Las Vegas Strip, Keith Paul with the Henderson Police Department told the station.
Police discovered the bodies of the suspect's mother, Elvira Canales-Gomez, and his 9-year-old brother, Cesar, in the bathroom of their Henderson apartment on Friday. The mom was found dead on the bathroom floor with multiple stab wounds and a butcher knife in her chest. Cesar was found in the bathtub. He had been stabbed once.
Navarro-Canales - who celebrated his 16th birthday Sept. 16 with his mother, brother and mother's boyfriend at the apartment - was nowhere to be found. The teen was first sought as a possible victim but was then named Monday as the prime suspect in the slayings. An arrest warrant said he would be prosecuted as an adult.
