Adele's "21" release surpassed the Houston-led soundtrack to "The Bodyguard" as the longest running No. 1 album by a woman in history, according to Billboard. The album reached its 21st non-consecutive week in the top slot following Adele's big Grammy wins. "The Bodyguard" soundtrack spent 20 weeks at No. 1 in 1992-1993.

Overall, Adele's sophomore album has sold a total of 7.3 million copies in the United States and 20 million worldwide.
