Bags full of dead cats found hanging from tree limbs in N.Y.

YONKERS, N.Y. - About 25 dead cats were found inside neatly-tied plastic bags hanging from tree limbs in Yonkers on Thursday morning.

Authorities said the cats were in various stages of decomposition.

"Some of the bodies were already fully decomposed, it was just like skeletons," Ernest Lungaro, Westchester Humane Law Enforcement Director of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, told CBS New York. "Some of the cats that were discovered were actually probably deceased within the last three days."

Necropsies will be performed to determine how the cats died.

Anyone with information is asked to call Yonkers police at 914-377-7724 or the SPCA's Animal Cruelty Hotline at 914-941-7797.
