Aaron Parsons, suspect in brutal beating caught on tape, arrested by Baltimore police

(CBS/WJZ/AP) BALTIMORE - Authorities say they have arrested one of the suspects in the brutal beating of a tourist that was caught on tape St. Patrick's Day weekend.

CBS Baltimore reports 20-year-old Aaron Parsons turned himself in to the police Friday night.

In the video, Parsons approaches a man behind him. A rowdy crowd gathers and it appears Parsons grabs something from the victim, who shoves his hand away. A few seconds later, Parsons hits the man. After the victim falls down, others kick and hit him, before stripping him of all his clothes as bystanders laugh.

"What he did was heinous. What he's accused of doing is heinous," said Baltimore City Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

After police learned of the video, they connected it to a report from a 31-year-old man from Arlington, Va., on March 19. The then-unidentified victim told police that he had been at a club the night before, but woke up with a black eye. He was also missing his watch, phone and car keys.

Several people called to identify Parsons, a well-known Baltimore party promoter and graduate of Mount Carmel High School, where he played basketball.

Parsons is now being held on $1 million bond. Police announced the charges Friday night, after releasing images of three people from the video. Parsons is charged with robbery, assault and other offenses. His lawyer says he will plead not guilty.

"Just to know they're off the streets makes me feel better - one less fool out there," said Baltimore resident Broady Best.
