A Diamond Is For Whoever
Developer Donald Trump is flabbergasted at ex-wife Marla Maples' decision to auction off the diamond engagement ring he gave her.
"It seems pretty tacky to me. It's really ridiculous," Trump told the New York Post on Wednesday.
The ring is a 7.45-carat, emerald-cut diamond with 16 graduated, straight baguette-cut diamonds. Trump presented it to Maples in the early 1990s, after they began dating while Trump was still married to then-wife Ivana Trump.
Trump and Maples married in late 1993, after she gave birth to their daughter, Tiffany. They were divorced in 1997.
"It's a gorgeous piece and was made by Harry Winston," Joseph DuMouchelle, the Detroit auctioneer handling the sale, said of the ring. Bidding on the ring is to begin around $80,000, and it is expected to sell for between $100,000 and $150,000, DuMouchelle told the Post.
The auction is set for June 2. Maples will also auction a sapphire and diamond ring, expected to fetch between $20,000 and $30,000, DuMouchelle said.
