A Close-Up Look at the New "Mortal Kombat"

With the big gaming conference E3 set to start next week, our sister site Gamespot takes a look at the new features in the upcoming iteration of Mortal Kombat.

On Thursday, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment said the new release, written for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, would be ready in 2011. It also called the game "the most brutal installment of the landmark fighting game to date." Here's a link to the trailer.

The Mortal Kombat series of fighting games has proved popular with consumers. It has also been a lightening rod for criticism from politicians pointing to a link between violent video games and anti-social behavior. In late 1994, the game was now famously singled out during a press conference presided over by Conn. Senator Joe Lieberman and Bob Keeshan, aka "Captain Kangaroo" of children television fame.
