6 horses killed, 2 motorists injured in Ohio crashes

COVINGTON, Ohio Authorities say two motorists were injured and six horses killed in a series of crashes after dozens of horses got loose from a western Ohio farm.

CBS affiliate WHIO-TV reports that Miami County authorities say an estimate 39 horses escaped. By 8:30 a.m., it was believed all the horses were captured.

Miami County sheriff's deputies say there were at least five separate crashes, the first one at about 3:30 a.m. Two drivers were taken to a hospital and are expected to recover.

Deputies are warning motorists in the area around Covington, north of Dayton, to be alert for roaming horses.

WHIO reports that the horses came from a family farm, possibly getting through a hole in a fence. A phone message left for the farm owner wasn't immediately returned.
