49 Female Suicide Bombers in Iraq Since 2003

Asharq al Awsat:
There were 49 attacks carried by female suicide bombers since the invasion of Iraq in 2003, according to Abdul Latif Rayan, the media advisor for the coalition forces in Iraq, who spoke to Asharq al Awsat newspaper. Rayan said the number of female suicide bombers jumped to 27 this year from eight in 2007. He also said there were no attacks by females carried out in 2004, while there were three in 2003, seven in 2005 and four in 2006. Rayan accused al Qaeda in Iraq of using people who have weaker positions in society to carry out attacks, noting that they've used mentally ill people nd children in the past.
