4 dead at Mo. campsite may be murder-suicide

(CBS/AP) BOURBON, Mo. - Authorities are investigating the killing of a woman and three children at a campground and resort in eastern Missouri as a possible triple-murder suicide.

Crawford County Sheriff Randy Martin says in a statement that four bodies were found about 1 p.m. Saturday at a campground about 80 miles southwest of St. Louis.

CBS Affiliate KMOV reports all victims had gunshot wounds.

The occurred in a remote area on the property of Blue Springs Ranch & Resort, southwest of St. Louis. Martin told KMOV they were not guests at the resort on the Meramec River, which has campsites, cabins, trail riding and other activities.

"How they came across this place we're really not certain," Martin said.

Police say they suspect the adult female victim is the alleged suspect in the murders.

The Crawford County coroner will be conducting a full autopsy on the victims and will release his finding in the coming days.

The identities of the victims have been held back by police until family is notified.

Martin told broadcaster KSDK that investigators believe the shootings happened Saturday morning and that the bodies had been there for "hours" when a guest found them.

Asked if he believes the woman shot the three children and then herself, Martin told the station, "We don't know for sure, but it kind of appears it could be that way. But again the investigation is still kind of early."

He added that investigators weren't seeking any suspects.
