4 dead, 11 migrants rescued after boat capsizes near Miami
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Four people are dead, eleven others rescued by U.S. Coast Guard crews after they were found clinging to the hull of an overturned boat seven miles east of Miami.
The Coast Guard received a report of a capsized vessel from 911 dispatchers in Miami-Dade County around 1 a.m. Wednesday, reports CBS station WFOR in Miami.
A boat crew and a helicopter were sent to the scene.
When rescue crews arrived at the location east of Government Cut, they rescued 11 people from the water.
The Coast Guard said those rescued were from Haiti and Jamaica.
Officials say one person was flown to Mt. Sinai Hospital but that person has since been released to Border Patrol officials.
The others are in custody.
It's not known exactly how many people were on the capsized vessel or if anybody else may still be in the water.
The Coast Guard says a Miami-Dade police helicopter is also assisting in the search for possible survivors.
