1982 case becomes homicide probe after Linda Knauss dies from injuries 30 years after shooting

(CBS/AP) ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The coroner's office in Allentown says a 65-year-old woman who died on Feb. 18 was the victim of a homicide because she was shot in Harrisburg in 1982.

The Lehigh County Coroner's Office said Tuesday Linda Knauss died of complications from a gunshot wound to her neck. She lived more than three decades after being shot in the neck while shopping at a Harrisburg clothing store.

An April 1982 story from The (Harrisburg) Patriot-News says Knauss, then 37, was a customer in The Plum boutique when she and a man were shot and injured during an apparent robbery attempt.

Harrisburg police say they've renewed their investigation into the unsolved shooting. The Dauphin County prosecutor says they're trying to develop a suspect description in hopes it might jog memories.

Officials say Knauss had been hospitalized with respiratory problems. First deputy coroner Eric Minnich says Knauss never recovered from the injuries she sustained in the shooting.

Knauss' nephew says she always looked on the bright side of things, but the shooting led to severe physical restrictions.
