(CBS) TUSTIN, Calif. - A 16-year-old boy is in custody after allegedly pouring gasoline outside his mother's bedroom following an argument, CBS Los Angeles reports.

The boy, whose name was not released, has been booked on suspicion of attempted murder, Orange County sheriff's Lt. Stu Greenberg said.

The boy's stepfather allegedly caught him pouring gasoline outside of his mother's bedroom on Sunday night. It is not known what the mother and son argued about.

"The parents overheard him out there and (the stepfather) stopped him before he could do anything or light anything on fire," Greenberg said.

The boy was booked into juvenile hall.
