1 dead in officer-involved shooting in Atlanta

ATLANTA --A suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Atlanta on Monday night, reports CBS affiliate WGCL.

Atlanta police said officers attempted to pull over a vehicle for driving the wrong way, but it appeared to attempt to flee their pursuit before crashing into a pole.

Two men inside the car then attempted to flee on foot, and officers caught up with the driver, WGCL reports.

Another suspect then attempted to flee toward the Aloft Hotel in downtown Atlanta, and when officers caught up with them, he shot at them, police said. That was when the suspect was killed.

"We discovered the suspect was armed with a .45 caliber weapon," said Atlanta Police Department Major Adam Lee. "There were shell casings near the body. That weapon and shell casings have been taken into custody."

Officers later found marijuana and weapons in the vehicle.
