Xcel Energy Center Ready For We Day Minnesota

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) – The announcement was made back in February, but We Day is finally here in Minnesota. About 18,000 kids from 400 schools will hit Xcel Energy Center Tuesday in a celebration of volunteering geared towards changing the world.

It's such a big deal that Gov. Mark Dayton, who is one of the guest speakers scheduled for the event, has proclaimed it "We Day" in Minnesota. These kids are celebrating their hard work, helping others. Students earned tickets through global and local service projects.

The concert is meant to reward kids, but also inspire them to do even more over the next year. The headliners are the Jonas Brothers and Carlie Rae Jepsen. Free the Children is behind all of this. We Day was started by two brothers in Canada to stop child labor abuses in Africa, and now it inspires kids to get involved.

The event starts at about 9:15 a.m. and will go until about 2 p.m.
