Twin Cities Couple's Dog Steals The Show In Their Engagement Photos

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Twin Cities couple is embracing a candid moment during their engagement photo shoot that didn't quite go as planned.

Megan Determan and Chris Kluthe's dog, Louie, wasn't happy just sitting in the background. He photobombed their pictures and, now, the photos are getting a lot of attention.

Choosing the right engagement pictures is a big decision for any couple.

"You're looking for your favorite spot. The two of you in your natural element," Megan Determan of St. Paul said.

The two wanted a photo that captured their soon-to-be family; Chris, Megan and their dog, Louie.

"It just made sense to have him in the pictures because he's our dog," Determan said.

They just never expected Louie to overshadow their moment. In the photo, the 6-year-old dachshund jumps in front of the couple just as the camera snapped a picture.

"I knew he was going to be in the shot. I didn't know he was that much in the shot," Kluthe said.

Louie is the type of dog that has a way of commanding attention. At their St. Paul home, you might even say that Louie's the alpha. After all, he came in to Megan's life first.

"I feel like Louie's always just kinda like that. Anytime I go to touch Chris, he's like, no, I want to be pet," Determan said.

In the picture, Chris is the only one perfectly blocked from view. Louie's body is positioned in a way that he's blocking Chris, but Megan is in the background.

"Usually, if someone's face was blocked out, we wouldn't deliver a picture. This one is obviously 'the Louie picture', is a special case," Karin Berdal, of DnK Photography, said.

Karin and her husband, Dan, took the picture and knew immediately this was not the normal engagement photo.

"I thought it was hysterical off the bat, but I had no idea it would become what it's become," Karin said.

The odds of capturing a similar photo, given the framing, positioning and timing, is unlikely.

"One-in-a-million sounds a little dramatic because we didn't take a million pictures, but it's not every day you get a shot like that," Berdal said.

Every bride-to-be wants those picture perfect moments, but sometimes it's the imperfections that make the greatest memories.
