Trump To Sheriff Stanek: I Would've Won Minnesota With 1 More Visit

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- President Donald Trump spent Tuesday morning with law enforcement leaders from across the country in the White House for a listening session, including Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek.

Trump at one point mentioned to Stanek that he would have won Minnesota during the 2016 election if he had campaigned in the state just one more time.

The president also discussed the issue of Somali refugees in Minnesota with Stanek.

Trump: You have a big problem with the refuges pouring in, don't you?

Stanek: Yes we do, sir. And all we're asking is what you're doing is, let the courts decide, do what we've been doing, the rule of law is strong and the proper vetting of individuals is really important to us.

Trump: Well, you know the vetting is much, much tougher now, and we need this court case. It would be very helpful to keeping the wrong people out of our country. You understand that better than anybody.

Stanek: I do, sir.

Sheriff Stanek also asked for help dealing with the opioid overdose epidemic, and the president said he would help.
