Gov. Dayton Signs Women's Economic Security Act

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A bill signed into law by Gov. Mark Dayton Sunday is aimed at helping women in the workplace.

Lawmakers and advocates joined the governor on this Mother's Day to sign the Women's Economic Security Act.

More than half the workforce in Minnesota is female, but they earn just 80 cents for every dollar men are paid.

The new law is designed to expand employment opportunities for women in high wage and high demand jobs, and reduce the gender pay gap.

The law also strengthens workplace protections and flexibility for pregnant and nursing mothers.
